Join our rangers on Otago Peninsula undertaking their monitoring programmes with rare and endangered wildlife. There is opportunity for two people to help for a day to carry out essential conservation work at the Taiaroa Head Nature Reserve with the royal albatross/toroa.

You will be able to view the newly hatched albatross chicks with their protective parents while they are weighed, measured and fed.

Check out the local hangouts of New Zealand sea lions/rapoka, fur seals/kekeno, and yellow-eyed penguins/hoiho and other wildlife with a DOC ranger and get all the inside information on what’s special about these endangered species.

Departing from Department of Conservation Office in Dunedin

Late January – March (Tuesday mornings are best)

Minimum of 10 years of age with a low to medium level of fitness, a good sense of balance is required as site very steep with uneven ground. Make sure you bring your camera.

All money from this auction will go to the Million Dollar Mouse fund – raising $1 million to eradicate mice off the Antipodes Islands and provide a safe habitat for the many animals and seabirds that rely on these islands. Mice, the last remaining pests, eat the eggs and chicks of the seabirds that breed on these islands.
