20 NZ Cents PUKAKI Oil Painting R Hammond 6/10

" 20 NZ Cents " is the 6th painting in this first set of 10 coin paintings.
The Kiwi was featured on our 20c until the Kiwi Dollar came in and a second 20c was circulated with a Pukaki on it.
Sometimes seen as a TIKI, This is no generic image.
Rather it is a reproduction of a specific carving of an 18th century Maori warrior leader called Pukaki, who was a Rangatira (Chief) of the Ngati Whakaue iwi of Te Arawa in the Rotorua district.
The carving was made in 1836 and today it can be viewed in the entrance of the Rotorua District Council.
My goal is to complete a full 28 series of sets of 10 coins (280 paintings)
Medium - Oil Paint, Black background is thick impasto style.
Canvas - 12" x 12" stretched exhibition canvas (1 1/2" deep)
Ready to Hang.

For part of my " Doubling Challenge " (google this !) I have decided to rekindle my interest in painting.
After studying a BA of Graphic Design in Australia, I have had a rest from art for the last 8 years.
Now I'm Back !
The first set of 10 paintings will be all New Zealand Coins.
These coins are all handpainted in oils and interpreted from the original thing by myself.

Although questions about commisions have been tempting... My aim is to create a second market for these (I'll be doing 280 coins in total) so I think it is fair that I only do one of each :) If you want to keep an eye on what I'm doing, there is an e-mail feed subscription on my blog which will only send you updates to the blog :) Thanks for looking, It's nice to know people have seen them !! Hi There, I'm afraid it has been sold !! I was going to keep it, but a family member asked to buy it...so you cant really say no :D Originally I was going to keep it as we all know what happened to Anthony Whites' first ones !!! Thanks so much for looking :D Rachel.
