Westinghouse Aurora 227L Fridge/79L Freezer
- Closed: Mon 2 Jul 2007, 8:30 pm
- Listing #: 106275892
HxWxD = 157x60x64cm
Capacity as per title
Four stars on energy saving index when it was purchased (700kWh/annum)
This fridge has been an old workhorse for me for many years and I'd estimate that it's about 12-13 years old now.
Seals are in excellent condition with a couple of nicks towards the bottom. There is a little rust starting to take hold around the fridge door handle, and two of the shelves are beginning to show signs of rust as well - apart from that the fridge is in quite good condition.
Recently it began leaking a little bit of water out of the front, closer inspection showed that the drainage channel in the back has seperated slightly from the body of the fridge - I've given the drainage system a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and resealed it with marine silicone - I've had it running for the last couple of days and it seems to be fine.
Finally, during my formative years as an often heavily intoxicated student I had some knucklehead flatmates who had a collective fetish for slamming various bottles into the door shelves. This took its toll and the shelves were cracked and beginning to give way. One weekend I took the shelves out, cleaned them up, epoxied the shelves back together and reinforced them MacGuyver style with duct tape.
The duct tape probably isn't necessary, but for the remainder of my student days the addition proved useful to keep the shelves together, and it's still going strong. And as you can see by the pictures - it's not exactly sticking out like a sore thumb either! If they break again (unlikely), they would probably not cost much to have plastic welded.
So, this would be a perfect fridge for a first home or for students, or it would serve excellently as a beer fridge - you can crank the fridge section right down in temperature to the point that food will ice up!
Pick up in Petone, or if you ask nicely (a dozen beer) I can drop off anywhere in the Wellington region, Kapiti/Horowhenua if you ask really nicely :)
Questions welcome.
