SCRIMSHAW is hand-carved ivory. The art was introduced to Hawaii nearly 200 years ago by the American whaling fleet. Using only a sharp pointed tool and India ink, 18th &19th century whalers engraved intricate scenes of the voyage and the hunt on a variety of ivories.

Today's SCRIMSHAW is still done with the painstaking care of the old whalers. Each piece is an original work of art; destined to increase in value as ivory becomes scarce. check out my other listings*
