Large Solid Wooden Artist's Easel

  • Listing #: 138899482
Large solid wood artist's easel. Stands approximately 2 metres high, with many height levels. Will take very large canvases.

This easel was owned by my Grandmother, Elizabeth (Betty) Curnow, who was a painter and printmaker for many years. She was also the subject of a well-known portrait study by Rita Angus - 'Portrait of Betty Curnow' - whom she knew as a friend throughout her life. So there may be some historical value there.

The easel has been well used, obviously, with all the inherent paint and print splashes and marks. Don't expect anything in pristine condition!

I don't know what type of wood it is made from, but it is solid, and well constructed. It has a brush and paint tray which attaches separately to the front. It is very heavy, so buyer would be well advised to pick up, but if absolutely necessary, I would look at cost for freight.

I have no need for this easel, so would like to pass it on to someone who could find a worthwhile use for it, and maybe even create some great art of their own.

Questions and answers

Hello! My mum used to look after Betty in Milford. How is she doing? valleystream (559 )  8:52 pm, Sat 2 Feb
Hi there. Betty died approximately two years ago, at Lady Allum Home in Milford. 9:08 pm, Sat 2 Feb
Oh no, so sorry for you. I will tell my mum (Nicolette). She looked after her before she went to the rest home. This is going back 15 years or so I think. valleystream (559 )  9:11 pm, Sat 2 Feb
That's O.K., and thanks. She died peacefully, a couple of years after entering the home, aged 93. 9:42 pm, Sat 2 Feb
