I would like to sell this bike sooner than 3 days, but trademe wont let me. I will already be home (barring more bad luck) when this closes. This is a broken BMW GS 1100 you may have seen earlier advertised as working. Well, it threw a bearing half way through my tour of NZ and during the previous auction.
Prior to that I was happy with it.
I was hoping to have it repaired before leaving the country so that I might ride again, but we couldn't find the parts in time despite a desperate search. The obvious problem is the gearbox bearing which was not replaced when it should have been during a rebuild, and consequently broke apart during my ride.
The main drive gear has a chipped tooth and scored race (it is integrated with the bearing) The rest of the gears look good in my opinion, but you can ask Murray McClean- it is at his shop and he is owed $400NZD in labor costs. I expect he would prefer to replace the whole gearbox with new parts. I do not agree that is necessary, but I don't have a shop with a reputation to be concerned with.
In addition to this gear and bearing, the rear wheel has a bearing which should be replaced.
The bike will need to be picked up at Murray McCleans shop in Nelson, NZ. You can view the bike there during working hours.
I have included the BMW branded locking panniers that I was using during my trip with the auction. I will be leaving them at the shop also.
I have left a signed bill of sale inside one of the panniers with my information and the 'as is' state of the transaction.
Prior to the breakdown- all systems were working great- lights, electrical, engine, brakes, fuel, clutch, etc.
I found a few good sources that I will share for the gear component- it is $215USD, but unfornately none of the available options managed to materialize before I had to fly home, and to be honest, I'm REALLY looking forward to getting there.
Thanks for reading!
