by extra-terrestrials in order to conduct boondoggle experiments) it one day reappeared... but it was not the same bike-lock as before.
The number code has long since been forgotten, the lost knowledge of a civilisation wiped out and barely remembered by future generations.
Consequently the lock has fallen into dissuse, regarded by all as an incomprehensble phenomena meant never to be opened by human hands again.
