Blair ‘Booker’ Spalding is 36 years old and joined the New Zealand Police Force in 1997 at the age of 20 years old. For the past 5 years he has been a Dog Handler.

In February 2012 Blair was diagnosed with a fairly rare type of brain tumour in the right frontal lobe of his brain..

Due to the location of the tumour and possible damage to critical stimulation areas (such as speech and memory) of the brain, Blair has been advised that his best course of action is to undergo an operation, which uses a brain-mapping machine during surgery to significantly reduce the possible risks.
Unfortunately, this type of machinery is not available in New Zealand.

Blair and his family need to go to the International Neuroscience Institute in Hanover Germany, where the hospital have already seen his medical file and have agreed to carry out the surgery within the next few months.
