Obverse : Bare Head, facing right; "FRANCISCO FRANCO CAUDILLO DE ESPAÑA POR LA G. DE DIOS"; 1966 below, between stars (19 inside left and 66 inside right).
Reverse : Shileds of Aragon, Castille, Leon and Navarra surrouding Granada; all encircle by 100 above left, crown above, PTAS above right, arrows below left and yoke below right.
This coin, issued in the later years of the Franco regime (1939-75), is a descendant of the gold one hundred pesetas issued in the late nineteenth century. This denomination was was issued 1966-70. It is the only silver coin of the Franco regime. Although the coin is dated 1966, the true minting date is incuse in the stars on the reverse, where a tiny "66" can be spied. Spain was the only country to do this and abandoned this clumsy system after 1982, during the reign of Juan Carlos.
