How about you buy the remaining balance of my student loan in return you will get:

1X photocopy of the payment receipt.

A witty handwritten Christmas card each year.

Free technology advice when required.

And a very well thought thank you note! :)

Some might think this is a bit silly but it never hurts to think outside the box ;)

UPDATE:

*I have dropped the start price for the last bit of the auction to $1 just to see what it could go for. Note if you win below the loan price $26,508.34. You will still get a Xmas card and a thank you note. Plus some technology advice. If it only goes for a few dollars I can not promise an Xmas card each year :P

Total donations came to: $375 (I have put this on my loan like I said I would)

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ANY ONE THAT DONATED!!! YOU ARE THE PEOPLE WHO MAKE NZ AWESOME!

Hopefully I have given you something to smile about this week!

I will not be re-listing this auction as I think it has had its run and the novelty will run out quickly :) so anyone else with the same auction on trademe is not me!

Did you ask John Key to take over your loan. Remember John Key is multimillionaire and pay French University 6 times your loan each year. John Key may help you to buy your debt. kanamataka2 (15 15 positive feedback) 12:07 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Oh no! Politics this will open up a can of worms! As long as we keep it positive guys :). If John wants to come over for a cup of tea :P would not hurt his chances in getting my vote! 12:14 pm, Mon 30 Jun

just inquiring as to how much technical advice would be included in this auction as we have many technical issues at this end that require sorting and your offer here appears to be within our budget and comes with all these added extras that make it almost impossible to pass up. puatan (308 308 positive feedback) 12:37 pm, Mon 30 Jun
26K will get you a fair amount! 2:03 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Great "outside of the box" thinking young man. If I had the kind of cash it would take to buy your student loan I would not hesitate to do so. All the best and I hope that there is someone out there who can buy your auction. Kia kaha!!!! kowhai19 (1789 1789 positive feedback) 12:41 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Thank you! :) Hope you are having a good day! 2:09 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Suggestion you can breakdown your loan to 5301 at $5.00 per item contribution or round it up to 5400 items as trademe charge per item. The total of payment still be around 26 thousand. You'll see it we be gone quicker. I will buy one if you do that. cheers linda_lm88 (578 578 positive feedback) 12:41 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Sounds a bit tricky I have opened up an account for donations however: 03-0703-0697393-005 8:15 pm, Mon 30 Jun
I think prospective buyers would like to know what the student loan financed. If it was an Engineering or medicine degree then it seems like a good deal. If it's a BA or a party lifestyle then...... nickmonaghan (154 154 positive feedback) 12:43 pm, Mon 30 Jun

Excellent thinking - and just incase it doesn't 'sell', (which I'm sure it will now) maybe you can auction a name space on a roll of honour, completed using calligraphy, for $1,000 a name. Then the winning bidder will be one of 26 people/companies who will receive a copy each! (and only pay $1,000). Then you could offer one name in half sized print for the remaining $508.24 (that would be a saving of $8.24 for the person with the short name... maybe me?) Godo luck. stu236 (119 119 positive feedback) 1:39 pm, Mon 30 Jun

Hmm, you should have not put the starting bid at the full amount. Maybe started at $200 and then let it be a bidding war. That way you'd at least get a contribution! You can still lower it! :) bunnzy (78 78 positive feedback) 2:21 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Done Thanks 3:08 pm, Mon 30 Jun
I'm assuming you're generation Y. I'm only assuming this because expecting someone else to pay off your debt would be typical, as opposed to doing the hard work paying it off yourself. fundad69 (35 35 positive feedback) 2:23 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Evil Gen Y, Just a bit of fun! I have a job and I do work hard thanks for your comment! 3:10 pm, Mon 30 Jun

hahaha I like your thinking :) 3:09 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Just a thought ---- why don't you ask people to make a bid / donation towards your loan - start off at $1 and you never know what the final price will be - leave the buynow for what is owing on your loan, but I think asking for the total amount in 1 auction may not work in your favour - anyway all the best lynn16 (2952 2952 positive feedback) 2:30 pm, Mon 30 Jun

My student loan has been gone for a while now. I have been missing having the constant drag on my income. Can you ensure that if I buy now, I'll be able to transfer this loan into my name? I don't really want to pay it all up front. I'd rather be screwed over for several years dgilmour78 (25 25 positive feedback) 3:21 pm, Mon 30 Jun

Hmm I think I have just made it confusing doing it this way. As now the buy now price is gone I might just remove the bids and put it back to how it was. 4:00 pm, Mon 30 Jun
I know quite a few peeps have said this already, but good on ya! Bit of stretchy thinking, I like it! = ) And this has certainly perked up a grey and dreary Wellington day. Kudos! Thank you hope you had a good day! 4:59 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Is that all you are offering for 26K. Not very entrepreneurial. In what ways can you add more value? If you add value - people will respond. At the moment. It's needy. Not entrepreneurial. rmidgley (309 309 positive feedback) 4:05 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Cheers for the tip what do you want? 5:08 pm, Mon 30 Jun
What a great listing and (I see your degree is a BSc InfoTech), any commentators using your listing to 'down' B.A. students or to comment you should pay off your own loan, may well have studied before Student Loans were invented/needed (The Bursary). I was there and yes, it was easier. So its good to see you staying tall and above the negatives - you'll live long and prosper I'm sure ;-) stu236 (119 119 positive feedback) 4:25 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Thank you! :) 5:00 pm, Mon 30 Jun
Could try putting up 260 Trademe listings. $100 per "item". Post each buyer a copy of your degree for them to use as they "see fit"....... :-) tenpointnine (65 65 positive feedback) 4:29 pm, Mon 30 Jun

Having had a loan and paid it off I wish you luck with your auction. To all those negative comments, you should be commended for at least staying in NZ and working and paying off your loan, unlike MANY who haven't. Perhaps you should make more of a point of being able to offer IT advice in your ad because your services over time would be valuable. All the best. loseitnow (1 1 positive feedback) 7:38 pm, Mon 30 Jun

I've just seen you on Campbell live and I admire your humour and openness, a rare quality today. I am a first year student, with a student loan which increases every time it pass some exams. Therefore, I am not able to buy your auction, but would be willing to make a small contribution on one condition. The donation I make will be reciprocated upon the completion of my degree? Hi, It seems you are having a good job, We all know if you are in IT job, it must be giving you at least 55K. For single person, living cost may not be more then 500 per week. [If more, then, better stop drinking and start saving] Dude, stop bagging or dreaming, you can help yourself by paying at least 13 -15K per year towards your loan. I am really gutted to see why Campbell live giving your such importance. Looks like John don't have anything to show in his shows nowadays. Andy andy836 (0 0 positive feedback) 7:46 pm, Mon 30 Jun

Do not get excited. Please delete the bid made. This is from an ipad app. After watching your TV 3 interview on Campbell live the next thing was to visit your ad in trade me. To see who had bid it asked what for options to collect. Clicking pick up as a joke the next button resulted unintentionally with a notice of leading the bidding. One bid. This was not the intention. It is in error (and horror). Please contact admin and correct. Getting a student loan is a nightmare. Ground hog day. Help. eighteight (3 3 positive feedback) 8:32 pm, Mon 30 Jun

You chose to get a loan knowing exactly what you were getting yourself in to. Now you expect somebody to save your arse & make all your problems go away?? Is this a product of a spoilt upbringing, or is it the standard youth attitude now? Oh, and when John asks a question its yes , not yeeeh. Will post what the donations are at the end. I can not really change that as it takes the "buy now" away which gives the auction its novelty! 9:51 pm, Mon 30 Jun

What a stupid auction. I wasted 2 minutes of my life reading this stupid article to find myself looking at this stupid pathetic auction. When I saw your picture, without drawing a stereotype, you fitted the nerd image I drew up in my head. I'm now thinking what I could do to make up for this complete waste of time, that even telling you how pathetic this is isn't doing it justice. You could do even better if you team up with all your fellow student loan debtors, and create some CLOs, Collaterised Loan Obligations. You can then sell these to investment banks all over the world for a tidy sum. You might think why would they buy them, but hell, why not! They can bet that the CLOs become worthless and make far more money from that. All happened before. chlm (26 26 positive feedback) 11:11 pm, Mon 30 Jun

It was great seeing you on Campbell Live............I was pleased that you took my suggestion further........good on you. It may be interesting seeing where this might go. Thanks Alfa2k99! The only problem with that is I would be breaking some of Trademes T & Cs and would be a bit of a logistical nightmare. I would need to come up with another way to do this. I seem to be getting a few donations however which is good :) There are some very generous people out there! 8:17 am, Tue 1 Jul

Daniel, you're on to it. Just saw the article in stuff.co.nz. Modify your deal a bit and see how you go. You have an interest free loan. Lots of people must want that. Go them halves - sell a loan at say 2% interest, bank the money at 4.5% and just pay off your free loan as normal. Or, be less conservative and invest the money at some larger rate. If all students did that, housing might be affordable in Christchurch, who knows? Good luck!! makingspace (49 49 positive feedback) 4:03 am, Tue 1 Jul

i have donated $10.00 this morning :) - my student loan was oirginally 42K so I can definitely relate - iv managed now to get it down to just under 10k....if you get donation in excess of your requirements, feel free to pay it forward and pay my loan off....as a full time worker and single parent to a 2yr old i could definitely do with the spare cash a zero balance on my student loan would give me...good luck Dan - i really hope your loan is paid off, or at least a decent chunk of it :) wolvendale (143 143 positive feedback) 7:39 am, Tue 1 Jul

You'll easily pay off your loan over your working life. Don't look at it as debt, look at it as an investment into your future. Someone with a degree will earn more than someone without a degree. On the whole, getting a degree has a net benefit over your lifetime earning potential. I don't think it is crazy to expect you to pay for something that you will personally benefit from. Good luck with life!! ashe4 (120 120 positive feedback) 10:29 am, Tue 1 Jul

You were lucky One of our family had the misfortune to enroll in a Carich I.T course in Wellington in 1999 that totally failed to deliver. It wasn't until those 17 students employed two solicitors (had to sack the first as he dragged his feet) that the class was paid out a small amount of compensation but they were still left to repay their full student loan. Carich only agreed to to pay this compensation if the students agreed to sign a gagging order not to speak out. marionoz (114 114 positive feedback) 2:32 pm, Tue 1 Jul

That would be a great deal 8:57 pm, Tue 1 Jul
Actually, thinking about it, if I bid and win, you're gonna be dinged with something like $1400 in TradeMe fees. Have you got that much in your TradeMe Account, and if so, why didn't you put that towards you loan? Then I'd only have to bid $25100, in which case you need $1300 in your TradeMe Account, which you should then also put towards your loan. Then I'd only have to bid $23800, which is $1200 in fees, credit to your loan instead, then I only need to bid $22600... ... ... ... ... ... steptoes.son (336 336 positive feedback) 8:53 pm, Tue 1 Jul
The trademe fee maxs out at about $160 for this type of auction.... I did my homework on that :-) 8:56 pm, Tue 1 Jul
I know you are trying to think outside the box, but asking others to pay for your student loan just so that you don't have to is a bit on the nose... this country has so many students that have loans just as much, if not bigger than yours, who quietly accept that they have to pay it back. It actually makes me sad that you feel brazen enough to ask others to pay it for you, especially when it appears you have a regular income, and therefore a means to pay it back yourself. spaztic_monkey (18 18 positive feedback) 9:30 pm, Tue 1 Jul
Sorry you feel so deeply about this! I didn't think this would take off like it did but that's what doing something a little out of the usual does :) I don't regret it at all ! The only people that will think this auction is a great idea will be labour voters or worse, & consequently will be broken arses that can hardly afford their internet connection, let alone bidding on a worthless auction. If you had gone on Campell begging for a job so you could pay off your loan you would have one by now. Get off your lazy arse, society does not owe you a living. bob1120 (43 43 positive feedback) 8:20 pm, Wed 2 Jul
I have an idea. Sell the loan in 'share units' at $10 each, and sell 5,200 shares so you can pay back the loan and have another $26,000 which will be invested for shareholders with a top investor for 1-2 years. Shareholders have fun watching progress, You pay the admin. costs and investment fees, investors should get back $6 -$7 at the conclusion and know they have helped you. I'll be in and so will my wife. Cheers, Tony. fogg (77 77 positive feedback) 7:40 am, Thu 3 Jul

Well I think your on to it! and fair enough, because in the 90's student loans came in, some politicians and others did not have to pay for their university education. Hey again, I've said some positive things about your auction, but particularly given there is 24 hours to go, hows about removing your 'donation' bank details? That changes the playing field because if someone hits the buy now, you also keep any donations you get. Sure, you could promise to give them to charity but.. Why not stay true to your original idea and remove your bank acc details so that the auction is a fair auction? You never know... and you have lots of ideas now for future auctions stu236 (119 119 positive feedback) 9:11 pm, Fri 4 Jul

You're still going really well with your replies to the 'negatives', and good luck for the end of your auction! No need to post this unless you think you should, but you could also knock the donation amount off the loan and adjust the auction amount accordingly (I think you can still do this until an action reaches reserve). That would add a final 'wham!' to your action if you also mention it in the advert. ie: New selling pitch - NOW REDUCED! ;-) stu236 (119 119 positive feedback) 11:29 am, Sat 5 Jul
Thank you, I have tried a different approach and put it to a $1 reserve. 4:54 pm, Sat 5 Jul
How about reducing your starting bid to see if you can get an auction war running for the last few hours! Oh and to Bob: what a party pooper! You dont know how to have a good time do you?! Some of us can see the humour and creativity at work but alas, some just need to be moaners! Have a boring saturday night while the rest of us watch the final moments of the auction of the week with anticipation! hahahahahaha. d************r (60 60 positive feedback) 2:15 pm, Sat 5 Jul
Thank you, Yeah will drop it for the last few hours! 4:46 pm, Sat 5 Jul
Trademaster, what you have done symbolises the ones who make a difference in society. You think outside the square, and perhaps WIN! The ones in a similar situation, may not think/do the same, and then wonder why you have become a WINNER, and they moan and whinge, because they end up being LOSERS! It is not rocket science, just a different outlook. John Key is a WINNER for this very reason.GOOD LUCK! dbarrel (444 444 positive feedback) 2:48 pm, Sat 5 Jul
Thanks so much!! 4:47 pm, Sat 5 Jul
And we are off and bidding! Damn, i have been outbid already, hahaha. Please put up your bank account number again as people who are unsuccessful like me may still like to donate a small amount for your creative idea. oh and loving the idiots who are putting up similar auctions! it is only funny and interesting when its an original idea!!!! d************r (60 60 positive feedback) 8:49 pm, Sat 5 Jul

Hi, Technically I can its not my area or strength however so the site might no be so flash hot! I am more into the Hardware/server side of things. My real passion in IT is security! 4:45 pm, Sun 6 Jul
So does the lucky winner get the full loan passed on to them? or is the bidding just a donation to yourself paying it off kiwi_saint01 (8 8 positive feedback) 5:11 pm, Sun 6 Jul
Just a donation going towards paying it off! :-) 5:14 pm, Sun 6 Jul
Mate this is a brilliant idea, those who are negative/abusive toward you likely belong to one of 3 categories. A) Those who didn't think of this first and are just jealous, B) Those born with a silver spoon in their mouth, or C) Those who have never had a student loan before. You'll probably find that Prime Minister Key and all the other well to for people in the world got to where they are with this exact type of thinking. kiwi_samura (151 151 positive feedback) 12:23 am, Tue 8 Jul
Thanks Kiwi!! 1:07 pm, Tue 8 Jul
It's good to see someone with the courage to ask for some help. Trademaster55 could have just not bothered to study at all and bludge off the dole instead, or, done what many other students in the past have done and leave the country, and leave the tax payer to cover their debt. I'm not usually one to comment on auctions but this one is deserving, and if I didn't have a massive student loan of my own to pay off, I'd happily donate some money. GOOD LUCK! kiwi_samura (151 151 positive feedback) 12:37 am, Tue 8 Jul
Thanks again Kiwi! Hope you are having a great week! 1:18 pm, Tue 8 Jul

Well done, for thinking outside the norm. I don't understand all the kaka comments though... it's not like anyone is being forced to donate lol. Good luck on slaying your personal demon (known as a student loan!) I need to wrestle my own demon into oblivion too! cbree (49 49 positive feedback) 5:20 pm, Tue 8 Jul
