New Zealand based and internationally renowned sports star Daniel Carter will be the first person in the world to purchase a computer loaded with the latest Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 Professional. As the clock ticks past midnight into the morning of 30 January, Carter will pick up his HP laptop at the Dick Smith Electronics Powerhouse, Manukau, Auckland. The laptop will be autographed by Daniel Carter and placed on New Zealands online auction site TradeMe. This along with 15 copies of Windows Vista (Ultimate) digitally signed by Bill Gates and other exclusive technology items will be auctioned to raise funds for New Zealand charity Cure Kids, www.curekids.org.nz

Seller Comment: As a quick clarification from Microsoft, Daniel Carter did indeed purchase the first PC in the world loaded with Windows Vista using his personal credit card. Although the sales were done on different tills,Graham Saywell's laptop purchase is in the store tracking system as after Daniel Carter's sale.

Seller Comment: Daniel Carter donated his laptop to Cure Kids charity on the night and also autographed many items ranging from t-shirts, posters, and purchased products from the Midnight Madness as part of his goodwill gesture. This included Graham's laptop, but not because it was the first in the world.

Great question, Microsoft will supply a certificate saying “First laptop with Windows Vista installed to be sold at the midnight consumer launch event at Dick Smith Electronics in New Zealand on 30 January 2007.”
