This auction is for an Apple Macintosh 512K computer system. I rescued this system from an e-Day collection point (it had been dropped off for recycling) and I do not know its previous history.

The Macintosh 512K "Fat Mac" systems were the second Macintosh model released by Apple. They have an 8 MHz Motorola 68000 processor and 512kB of DRAM (which makes them considerably more usable than the original Macintosh 128K). This particular system is Apple model M0001ED which means that it was produced for sale to the educational market.

This particular system has serial number F6295G7M0001ED (which means it was manufactured in mid-July 1986).

The system is quite clean and has no major dings, dents, or marks. I haven't opened the system's case to check the interior, but I assume that it is clean inside. The case has slightly yellowed and there's some minor corrosion evident around the battery terminals (see photo).

I powered the system on my test-bench and it comes up with the usual "missing system disk" logo. I haven't attempted to boot into Mac OS (I don't have any old Mac OS system disks) however I have connected an old Apple mouse and the cursor responds - so it appears that the system is functional

The Macintosh 512K is a collectable machine in its own right. Alternately it would make an excellent source of spares for restoring another Mac 128K or 512K system (the Macintosh 128K and 512K models share many of the same components).

This system is 25 years old and is offered in "as is, where is" condition. The age of this system means that although it works today, it might not work tomorrow. Unfortunately I do not have the original keyboard and mouse - so these will need to be sourced separately.
