Just saw this auction on Breakfast this morning. Just wondering if the 90kg weight limit has any leeway? I think I'd need to start a pretty quick to lose diet, but just wondered if it was a firm weight limit? Cheers

"Hi There, There will be 2 flight sessions each lasting for about 2 hours, one in the morning and one after lunch. Typically flight session last about 15 minutes, and happen about every half hour. The team at Martin Aircraft Company have said that while all this flight time (potentially 10 sessions) is available in the day, the actual flights achieved will be determined by you, How quickly you can pick up the control and handling of this amazing machine, and how you cope with all the adrenaline.
2:51 pm, Thu 17 Sep
Seller Comment: Just to clarify you will spend about two and a half hours with the flight crew in the morning and in the afternoon, which could potentially give you up to ten 15 minute flight sessions, if you can handle it!
4:13 pm, Thu 17 Sep
5000 test flights in the last year without injury.
14 flights EVERY day. Is that what you achieved or was it 14 flights every day in the last year after your last injury?
You can't tell me this thing has done 14 flights everyday in the last year and has never been out for maintence?
Also it isn't a jetpack, It's a ducted fan.

The Martin Aircraft Team respond: We do not test every day, but when we do test we often have more than 50 flights per day. The Jetpacks are maintained regularly – in the days we are not flying.

It is an awesome looking piece of engineering but I can't help asking this. What happens if the engine quits at altitude? There are no wings to glide on so what next?

The Martin Jetpack will have a ballistic parachute which will deploy immediately and bring you and the aircraft down. There are other answers about safety on the company website or their YouTube channel.

Check out the Martin Aircraft site as this will end up being a significant option for aircraft flight. At the moment it has about 30 minute range but it is still in R & D. The team at Martin jetpack will be able to answer questions to the ultimate destination of the technology. Thank you for your interest

Hi there, I look at some of the questions and comments on here compared to the very positive comments that are on the Youtube clip, and I am speechless that people are not very supportive - most are - particularly those that watched Campbell live, but some comments and questions defy description. As a kiwi who loves innovation and people with drive, well done guys, all success to this auction and your future endeavours, you deserve it!

Thanks so much for your support. The team down there really deserve their success. I hope that some NZ investors will keep this project in NZ because as always it looks like the financial support is coming from offshore. It would be so cool if this was always seen as a NZ product. I hope other people share your view.

Hi there. I've loved your machine and been talking about it with anyone who will listen ever since I heard you were going to be at Oshkosh. With that sort of performance, I reckon you can call it whatever you like. Is that 90kg in a flight suit and helmet or 90kg in the altogether? I'm about 86kg just before I leap in the shower. :-) Tim

Given these have been sold by the Martin Aircraft Company to the military for training operations, wouldn't it be easy to pull them apart & make minor changes to get around copyright design protection & then manufacture & destribute via Aeronautics multinationals?

The engine is heavily protected with patents pending. Martin Aircraft would be able to answer this in more detail but there has been a lot of work done to protect the invention and the investment to date

the one on ebay states. it's in Manukau and is free shipping to USA. Also states usually shipped within 3 days of cleared payment. Hope some yank has read the desrciption properly and doesn't think he's actually buying the thing. Also does a yank need a kiwi license or a kiwi need a usa one?

This auction is for an experience of flying a Martin Jetpack in Christchurch New Zealand as a new test pilot. The requirement for a drivers licence is a simple method of ensuring the bidder is physically capable of operating vehicles, as determined by their own country via drivers licensing.
9:33 am, Thu 24 Sep
The test flight day will be organised at the conclusion of the auction. It would be more likely be inside a month of completion of the Auction.

The website has the target spec for the recreational version of the Martin Jetpack – the development version has lots of additional testing equipment on board, so maximum pilot weight (nude) is set at the 90kg limit.
