So I was walking through Pak 'n' Save Petone, when low and behold I saw possibly the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life. There before me, amidst the hundreds of potatoes, was the spitting image of our nation's leader...the honourable Helen Clark!
Too excited to finish my shop, I snapped up this incredibly rare find and rushed it home to my mantle piece where it sat admired by awe-struck friends and family.
However, after the furore that resulted from Lisa Lewis' bikini auction I thought I'd share my prized possession with the world and auction it on Trade Me.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone wanting the ultimate kiwi souvenir. Investment potential.
Just take a look at the multiple angle photos and I think you'll agree that this is quite remarkable.

Ha ha, good one mate! Except I think most would agree, this spud has more resemblance to Helen Clark than just having one eye.

Look mate, I don't know. Like I said, I found it in the supermarket.

You must understand that a find like this is unbelievably rare! I hope the person who wins it shall treat it with the respect it commands.

Can you advise me if your rare find does more good than its look alike? And is it more pro family? Any idea of its gender orientation? And do you have the rest of the PC gang that you will offer? Has it told any lies, sorry, press releases saying that are no traffic ticket quota's? If you could get that, it would prove the genes are indeed the same!

If you peel this, you may find that it has a heart of gold just like Helen. I am very grateful to Helen and the Labour Government for all their initiatives to support families.

Good on you but the thought of peeling this gem isn't very appealing to me. Why ruin such a wonder of nature?!

Hi, this isn't so rare its one of a set of six. I have the prune, I've seen the carrot, parsnip, radish, cabbage with the swede being the ultimate collectors piece and considered the most lifelike.

Believe it or not, unlike Labour's election campaign photos, airbrushing was not required! I get a lot of people saying that I must've carved it out a bit or something to get it looking more like her but this is the real deal. I personally think the little areas of dirt add great likeness.

Can it lie down straight at night?

If you want, yes, I have a range of Bic pens. What colour would you like? Or coloured pencils? I have some Faber-Castells. Actually I have some Crayola Overwriters as well, maybe one of those?
7:17 pm, Wed 26 Jul
Well that may be the case, but I personally find this to be one hot potato.

I can assure you that I'm keeping this hot potato in an air tight, temperature controlled environment to keep it in the best possible condition.
4:43 pm, Sat 22 Jul
Well due to the decomposable nature of this marvel I think I would need to send it in an air-tight container or possibly even a refridgerator unit. Bid-away though compadre, we can sort it out afterwards.
7:15 pm, Wed 26 Jul
A lot of people have said this, other popuar comparisons have been Parekura Horomia and Jim Bolger. Don't look at it for it's shape, looks closely then you'll get the true Helen experience.
7:21 pm, Wed 26 Jul
That looks like one very tasty potato ... but the fact that it looks so incredibly like our Leading Lady scares me ... I must want to eat her equally as much ...
I have strong sympathy toward this poor potato as I am certain it didn't want to be created in her image ... it must be the absolute laughing stock of the vegetable world ... hopefully Maggi will come to it's rescue and put it with Mushy on thier next TV advert ... hopefully it's short life is not wasted in becoming a handful of Kettl

Well you left it upwards of a week, can't expect the same batch of spuds to be sitting there after such a long period. But yeah, you have to be in to win don't ya. I shudder at the thought of passing this prize by. It's one of those things I would've always brought up with people but never have been able to prove.
2:10 am, Tue 25 Jul
The way Helens running the economy you can just about expect to pay this for one potatoe anyway, ($5++++) so for you serious bidders of a rare gem you're gonna have to 'dig' a little deeper for this spud I imagine. It's outa my price range, I wonder if there's a set Helen and her man?

If every potato resembled someone as much as this spud resembles Helen then I'd be more than willing to pay $5++++ per potato. This potato has brought an amazing amount of happiness to my life, I go to bed smiling, I wake smiling. I have no doubt that the winner of this auction will experience similar feelings.
10:00 pm, Fri 28 Jul
Frankly, I'm concerned that the potato may have some unappealing tendencies, breaking the speed limit, giving long-winded speeches, etc. Can you guarantee that this will not be the case?

Well Mr Smarty Pants, you must think you've really stumped me with those. For a guy that claims (in his profile) that one should "judge a man by his questions, not his answers" you don't seem to be very good at asking questions. It's obvious that the reserve has been met. And as for why I am looking to sell it, well I stated that the furore of the Lisa Lewis auction made me want to do it. Maybe you should bloody well think before you go asking stpid questions like that. Have YOU found an amazin

Thanks, I am truly delighted to have found such a wonder of nature. These things only happen once or twice in a lifetime, and I think it's important to share them with the world. She doesn't come with a handbag I'm sorry, you may want to try finding a Mrs Potato Head doll for that. I had actually considered taking it to local schools, but I guess that's now up to the successful bidder.

As far as I know it doesn't talk. Mind you, I did hear some mumblings in the night a wee while ago. I actually thought it might have been the potato but common sense told me otherwise. I went out into the kitchen and lounge and sure enough it was my cat Friggy. Silly thing. So yeah, at the end of the day it can't talk, lie or cheat...it's a potato (mind you a potato that looks a lot like our 'leader').
5:57 pm, Wed 26 Jul
No but I would be happy to carry out an investigation into this, however it would likely be a very costly and time consuming process.

Well potatoes do hold moisture well, so yes you could use it as a pipeline extension if you wanted. Is that the kind of pipe you mean? Is it even possible to make pikelets in the oven? Joybells63 shouldn't be grateful to Helen Clark for Labour's "family initiatives". She should be grateful to the people that work hard and/or put their homes and assets at risk in order to make the money that Helen Clark takes off them to give to Joybells 63. Its our money, not Helen Clark's, and Joybells63 shouldn't forget it.
