Description: Ebony powder coated hollow cast steel tapered frames with neat-chromed finials to the upper frames. Original vinyl upholstery to seating and back rests.

The “Heron” dining chair was part of a series of very desirable hollow cast metal framed chairs by Grant Featherston that he designed for Melbourne based manufacturers Aristoc.

The “Mitzi” and “Scape” dining chairs were part of this series; one can’t miss the similarities in all three Featherston’s designs.

However, unlike the Mitzi the Heron appears to have a far more sophisticated form with its forward cantilever like seating and acute angled back leg profile that suddenly changes direction to accommodate and support the mid to upper back section of the person seated.

Whatever the case the Heron is a fabulously rare chair that is harder to come across than its counterparts.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Grant Featherston design he is probably one of the most celebrated of Australian furniture designers from the 1950’s and 60’s, his work has had a tremendous influence on modern design internationally and most definitely on both sides of the Tasman.

Today his work is rare and highly sought after it continues to hold a fascination amongst collectors and is often bought as an investment.

Condition: these chairs are original and therefore have age related issues with foam etc. However, these chairs are a collector’s item that wouldn’t take much to have them looking fantastic.
