Not Eames or Herman Miller, but the Ministry of Works knew a thing or two about making things solidly and to last. These chairs graced every Government Department you could think of and the only design brief was to make a chair that was almost impossible to fall asleep in. That's not to say they're uncomfortable to sit in, but only for 8 hours at a stretch...including tea breaks and lunch.
