Oil on canvas painting from around the 1940's. Typical seascape of that era and style, including framing and back panel. Signed, looks to be European.

I have been looking at this painting in my bedroom for the past few weeks. Each time I watch I see something different. The reason is because the painter was using Impressionist techniques which you will find is about detail versus distance and play on lighting when you look it up. Basically, the painting looks disorganized up close but very much together from a distance.

Ligthing effects are brilliant. If you have have ever been to Capri, Sicily or Patmos, you will recognize the lighting which harbinges an afternoon of rain and thunder on a hot summer's day. I am looking past a 17th century structure that was built when the Italian States were vying for supremacy and completely at odds, way before any unification of Italy was possible (let alone the EU).

The island in the background looks like a dormany vulcano (Shades of Auckland here), but I can't place this painting since I cannot profess to have visited each and every island in the Mediterranean. I wish I had.

If you wish too, at least buying this evocative scene will put your heart at rest until you can buy the ticket to tarvel to Europe to find this spot yourself.
