Description
This beautiful Italian guitar was made in the early part of last century..about 70 years old. Would look amazing as a display item in an Italian, European or Sicilian Style decor...restaurant, bar, cafe, travel agency, Mediterranean home etc. Was until recently played in a NZ Southland folk band. If only it could talk? It has an inlaid bird (Swallow?) on the playing top, is fully strung and can be played, with all tuners intact. It has been repaired during its life but is quite solid, for its age. Many of this era have simply disintegrated. Buyers need to accept this is not a modern, perfect piece. Rather, it is hand made and rustic. Ideal as a display item. Very limited as a performance instrument. It was made in Catania, Sicily. The second largest city in Sicily at the foot of Mount Etna. An active volcano which has come close to burying the city several times. The Sicilian instrument business was very strong in this era. Typical style with all timber construction, steel strings, metal tailpiece (holds the strings at the base) and wooden inlays. Very expensive to get something like this made today. Comes complete with its own leatherette case, of a similar era.
