THE KINGSTON FLYER is the story of a train and a man. The train is the Kingston Flyer tourist train at Kingston, New Zealand, and the man is Russell Glendinning M.B.E., the man whose job it was, and whose passion it became to keep the Flyer running regardless of the logic.

Spanning more than 100 years The Kingston Flyer is a legend in its own right. The train today is a remnant of a once proud railway system. Locomotives, ships, goldfever and heartache are entangled in this moving picture from the past. From the days of the wooden railway and the Lady Barkley at Invercargill to the sinking of one of the last great lake steamers; from Bandits to administrative problems this video will keep you enthralled to the very end.

This is a tribute to a man to whom work became a love, and love became work. Without him, you would not have this video, nor would you have the opportunity to ride on this vintage railway. Long may this historic train continue to work from beautiful Kingston, one of the last places in New Zealand where one may travel behind a steam locomotive with period carriages on a regular basis.
