Description
Interesting looking very old German Banknotes as scans.
An old 1922 German banknote for 10,000 marks, sometimes known as the 'Vampire' note because when viewed sideways, it appears as if a vampire is biting the neck of the man (it is not easy to see at first): the engraving is Albrecht Durers Portrait of a Young Man but was slightly altered by the banknote engraver to show this so-called vampire apparently sucking the lifeblood out of the German economy with the reparations imposed after World War One. The 10,000 mark note was first issued in 1922 in a time of spiralling inflation.
