Very rare 1850's antique cross-stitch, mounted and framed.

This has been in my family for many years, but I have no heirs so time for passing it on.

It was cross-stitched by an 8-year-old girl named Ann Eliza Horsfield, in 1850.

It shows all the letters of the alphabet in doubles, and the numbers 1 thu 14. It is very neatly done.

There is only ONE mistake on it, which makes it even MORE compelling, as either she didn't notice it, or decided it might damage the fabric to pull out the stitching and correct it.

She was proud enough to put her name, age, and year on it...as well as a reminder to: "Remember Thy Creator in the days of thy youth"...

My mother had it re-framed in the 1960's.

It is matted with fabric (grosgrain?) and covered with glass.

It's in amazing condition... always hung out of direct sunlight. The cross-stitch is on a cotton/linen fabric and shows minimal marks of age. The frame shows a very small nick (marked), and the back has a small tear, as well as missing one of the small rubber pads (also marked). I put a small bit of BluTac on the other side, and it worked fine.
