Very Large Vintage Naval Ensign

This flag was obviously designed to fly on a very large Naval vessel its one of the largest flags I've come across.
Based on the quality of fabric, the attached hardwear and rope for hoisting I would place the flag at around 70-80 years old if not older. I have no idea what the flag represents or its origins.
