Pickup is in Kaiapoi. From an estate i have the pleasure of offering you this absolutely exceptional German Coffer , hand made to the highest quality of both craftsmanship and materials. Steel fittings including large heavy hinges and a huge lock box with extra large key , all in perfect working order. Made from solid timber with extensive inlay of a variety of woods to the outside area making for an amazing looking design throughout. This was made in 1825 and the date is inlaid on the front with the word " Fecit" above it , this word means " made by him" or" made by her " and was formerly used on works of Art after the name of the artist , the name " Doris Drevermann Vogelsang " is inlaid below so this coffer was either made for or by her , i would say it was more likely to have been made for her ! Big Brass handles on either side & inside there is the original candle box with lid. Some of the wooden inlay is starting to lift in places on the top and sides as pictured but this is not surprising after almost 200yrs and only adds to the character of this genuine piece of antique furniture . This would dominate any room and is bound to be the topic of many interesting conversations . There is nothing flimsy about this fantastic Coffer , it is strong , sturdy , solid and ready to last another 200 years , would be great to make it one of your family heirlooms.
