Antique or Vintage ( possibly early 1900's )
Haberdashery Shop Button Container Shelf
Thats the original use , and it still has some of the old button containers ,but it could be used for all sorts of things .
LIKE Store your miniature collectables ......... Make some small draws for the holes .......... Put containers in it for storing your herbs and spices .......... Or " ................ " ( fill in your own idea in the space provided )
This is a little bit quirky due to the design , as the top and bottom frame , and all the shelf bases are made on a slight angle backwards , which is about 10 degrees , this was obviously so the containers would not fall forward . You can notice the lean on the battery in the third pic . Quite unusual . but great in an earthquake for the small collectables as they would slide backwards . ( depending on the size of the earthquake of course )
The unit measures 660 mm wide , by 680 mm high and its 85 mm deep .
The holes are 50 mm by 54 mm high and approx 75 mm deep .
The frame looks to be rimu the shelves and back are hardboard , the shelves are slot jointed so quite solid . I am unsure about the age as hardboard was invented in the late 1890's .
There are a couple of wall attachments at the top ., but it also has a runner along the front of the base , so it could go on a bench and sit vertically .
As seen there are some of the original containers , these are a bit grubby as this was used for storing nuts and screws in recent years .
ALSO , it is square it justs looks narrow at the base in the first picture ( an optical illusion )
