Description
A pair of remarkable chairs, from the Commonwealth Period in the UK (1653-1660)
It was deemed illegal to have any depiction of King James, and so this style of furniture was developed to show your Royalist sympathies. The carving depicts King James's Wig, beard and moustache.
I have found it very difficult to get an idea of their value. Some years ago I did a search and found a pair that had sold at auction in Germany for 9,000.00 Euro.
They have been in my family for nearly 70 years, having been bought in the UK in the 1940's by my parents.
They are in remarkable condition, but one is obviously not original, with metal casters added at some point.
Please feel free to ask questions.
