Nice condition US WWI issue model 1917 Bolo knife and scabbard. Dated 1918 on reverse of blade and leather tip of scabbard. AK Co. 1918 RHS on leather scabbard tip.

Blade very nice heavy steel 10-3/8" blade length (double-edged spear-point or "barong" style). NO rust NO pitting NO "nicks" NO bends NO cracks NO dings covered in "Cosmolene" or some such goop, I had to wipe it away to show dates

Wood grips in very good shape one gouge as seen in many images.

Large Steel cross-guard and bird's-head pommel,

Some heavy use-wear on canvas part rear of scabbard as shown.

This is the second evolution of the US Model 1910 Bolo Knife and was a reduction in size from previous (pre-1910) bolos.

This was a lighter general purpose chopping and digging tool/knife.

The difference between the 1910 and the 1917 is a simple removal of the latch that held the bolo in the scabbard; this latch is normally located at the upper tang back-edge rearward of the cross-guard.

The 1917 variant is the most common of the two types.

The standard scabbards are of wooden body with steel throat, covered by a green canvas outer sleeve with leather tip. An experimental all-metal sheath was issued later (made by Landers, Frary, & Clark).
