CUCHILLA = South American Gaucho COWBOY Knife

This one has maker marked that looks like a stylised cattle-brand, and as such a wee bit difficult for me to read.... Looks to say "Argentina" along base of the oval

I would say that amongst the MANY differing styles of "Gaucho Knife" this is most accurately described as a Cuchilla

Cuchilla.......

Blade shape = normal, single edged flat blade spine but with impressive deep-bellied edge.

No guard, no button.

Blade origin: early types from Germany, Spain, France & England; in the present time also Argentine made blades.

Main use = Butchering.

The whole (rather complex and involved) subject is covered WELL at this wonderful & most informative URL devoted to things Gaucho...

TOTAL LENGTH = 210 mm

Blade length = 120 mm

Elaborate scabbard is made from "Alpacca"

After the manufacturer, Berndorf AG, trademarked and made popular the brand name Alpacca, this term was used more frequently than the term Nickel Silver.

The term for this alloy in Mexico, Central America, and South America is Alpaca Silver rather than Nickel Silver.

Despite its name, Nickel Silver, contains NO real silver; and it is also commonly called German Silver or Alpaca
