For sale and in original condition a very good WW2 Bomber Pilot Memorial Cross Group of 6 medals to 42354 Pilot Officer CECIL ERNEST ARMSTRONG of 75 (R.A.F.) Sqdn, Royal New Zealand Air Force.
1939-45 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, British War Medal, New Zealand War Medal, Memorial Cross in original box with condolence slip. Killed on his 29th mission, Hit by Flak which detonated the bomb load while appraoching target.

who died age 27 on 23 May 1944. Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Armstrong, of Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand; husband of Elsie Isabella Agnes Armstrong, of Napier. Born 9th May 1916.

Raid Report Monday 22nd May 1944.
Raid on Dortmund, Germany by 361 Lancasters and 14 Mosquitoes - 19 planes lost 75 (NZ) Squadron RAF (Mepal, Cambridgeshire - 3 Group), Lancaster III ND768/F - took off at 22:57 on the Dortmund raid and was hit by flat on approaching the target, exploding in mid-air. The seven crew were buried on the 30th at Dortmund but later reinterred at Rheinberg, 12km south of Wesel.
Captain: NZ42354 Cecil Ernest ARMSTRONG - aged 28, 610 hours, 29th operation.
Navigator: NZ426917 Flt Sgt Douglas Beardsley PAYNE - aged 22, 449 hours, 27th operation.
Air Bomber: NZ415637 Flt Sgt Eric William Elliot MARSHALL - aged 31, 448 hours, 29th operation.
