The zhan ma dao translates to 'horse chopping blade', it was named this due to its proven effectiveness against cavalry forces throughout many wars in ancient China.

First appearing in the Ming dynasty, the zhan ma dao was favoured not only for its practicality but the fact that it could be learned in a short period of time. Not only was it a fearsome chopping weapon, the balance and leverage of this weapon from the long handle meant it could be maneuvered extremely fast.

The idea of such design was to perfectly combine the speed of single handed weapons and the power of two handed weapons.

The tapering broad head of this blade not only improves the chopping balance but also made for a more durable thrusting point, with two blood grooves run along either side of the blade.

The blade has been hand forged from a high quality carbon steel, heat treated, quenched and tempered for optimum hardness and resilience.

The unique appearance on the blade were actually the remained forging marks during the hand forging process, the outcome of fire and hammer.

The full tang has been double pinned into the handle for extra security. As well as being suitably shaped for striking purposes, the ring was used to hang the sword and helped to balance it.

Fitted with a solid brass hand guard, extra two bamboo pins on nature paudak wood handle then wrapped with nature rattan.

Widely used in old China by many military forces, this traditional zhan ma dao still has a great deal of cultural significance till this day.
