Description
A nice old first type Albert pattern skako tin for Charles Orme of the Northampton and Rutland Militia.
Charles Cave John Orme was a member of the landed gentry. He had a distinguished military career, retiring as a Major and was also the High Sheriff of Rutland in 1872. His family established the Orme Almshouses, which still exist today.

The Rutlandshire Regt was the 58th Regt, who served in the first maori wars. I am not sure if Orme did, or whether his service was entirely in the militia (territorials). He was a well known valuer and a google search of his name will bring up a lot of information. He died in the 1880s. The tin has probably been partly repainted or touched up over the years but its a nice and scarce survivor circa probably 1850s.
I have owned this for about 20 years.
I am a licensed second hand dealer. GST is included.
