Vintage WW1 Photo ANZAC COVE Gallipoli Dardanelles
This genuine OLD & ORIGINAL photographic print of Great Ware era photograph taken ANZAC Cove Gallipoli was not signed or attributed to any photographer ??
I do not know if this has ever been published ? But it is NOT one that I recognise as having seen before (But cannot guarantee that it is a "never before seen" image-in-print)
Should anyone KNOW who the anonymous photographer was ?? I would be most appreciative to know :-)
LARGE print approx 10 by 12 inches image size, contained in old plain thin black wooden frame, with approx. 4" matt board
The glass was broken when purchased and will need replacement, but much easier to mail "as-is"
This is a genuine antique photographic print
NOT something recently printed NOT spat-out of a computer-printer
Condition is reasonable for a print approaching 100 years of age little if any fading obvious some minor abrasions and creases all easily seen in my images
OWN YOUR OWN piece of ANZAC history
The subjects appear to be Kiwi ANZACs wearing Mounted Rifle and Pointed lemon squeezer hats with at least on Sola helmet ("sun hat") visible
Notably absent are the "tin hat" mentioned in the GREAT Pogues song "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" (A song written by Scottish-born Australian singer-songwriter Eric Bogle in 1971) he sang something like....
"Then in nineteen fifteen my country said Son It's time to stop rambling 'cause there's work to be done
So they gave me a *tin hat* and they gave me a gun And they sent me away to the war
And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli
