TANG DYNASTY (618–907) HEAD OF A HORSE
- Closed: Sun 24 Jun 2012, 10:05 am
- Listing #: 485563877
Beautiful head of a horse Tang Dynasty (618–907) mounted on a stand. His ears are gone but the nobility of his head is unmistakable. The modelling is masterful and detailed. There are some clear traces of pink and grey polychrome paint which trace the outlines of his bridle and the holes by his mouth indicate that he once wore a bit and that reins would have been attached. A triangular shape culminating in a deep groove down the back of his neck, shows us that a horsehair mane and forelock were once there, yet another indication of the pains the Chinese took in the interests of authenticity and real likeness.
This is a museum piece and a rare opportunity to own a real piece of Chinese Antiquity which comes from the same era that gave us the celebrated Terracotta Army.
Dimensions: 7cms deep and 15cms in length.
