A VERY RARE AND IMPRESSIVE ITEM .IMPORTANT MAKER .. W.M.F. (WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK ) . GERMANY . Very good order. The only defect is two deepish "scratches " on one end. One is is 4 cm long the other is 2 cm long. These are not cracks and appear to me to be a defect in the porcelain rather than later damage. .Metal fittings clearly stamped with the W.M.F. Trademark. China body impressed with upside down beehive mark and 2833/1 and WMF on base. 210 mm by 120mm by 100 mm . Note the enamel look to the china box. This is a Museum piece rarely seen in N.Z. let alone be available to purchase. Check them out on Google. Some Info ex Google follows

The Wachtersbach Earthenware Factory in Schlierbach, Hesse, manufactured this chocolate box in around 1910 as part of its range of commercial Jugendstil wares.

Jugendstil developed in Germany in 1887, following the publication of a Munich magazine, 'Jugend', which promoted a localised style of Art Nouveau. Like Art Nouveau movements in Europe and America, it encouraged an attention to traditional craftsmanship and to the representation of organic forms. However, it also focussed on Germanic themes, like mythology, and geometric shapes which reflected an emerging machine aesthetic.

The Wachtersbach Earthenware Factory in Schlierbach, Hesse, manufactured the box in about 1910 as part of its range of commercial Jugendstil wares. A colony of celebrated artists in Darmstadt designed the decorations, and through this association, brought acclaim to the Wachtersbach factory.
