This is an unusual old piece that belonged to my late father-in-law. It was certainly brought into New Zealand before the ban on trading ivory.
Three elephants on a stand hold the puzzle ball.
The whole piece measures 14cm high and the diameter of the base is 7cm. The puzzle ball has a diameter of 5.5cm.
The ivory is a rich creamy yellow, a bit dusty and needs a clean but I am not willing to try in case I damage it.
The puzzle ball is very intricately carved and I can see six balls - there may be seven- nested and moving freely inside the exterior ball. There appears to be a small piece missing off the 1st ball inside the exterior ball.
