Genuine ANTIQUE British Manufactured CAST IRON Negro mechanical coin bank or "money box"

CONDITION = TRULY SUPERB condition !!

He retains 97+ % of his entirely ORIGINAL Paintwork, CERTAINLY one of the VERY FINEST EXAMPLES of this model that I have ever offered for sale

AGE = Circa 1930's

In addition to the "Made in England" cast into his lower back, he has the numeral "4" cast into the base of his hand, with "1" on his interior back, and "2" on his interior front.
These marks are simply assembly cast-markings and do not indicate who actually manufactured this bank

This bank DIFFERS from other similar banks in that the eyes roll DOWN when he gobbles his coin (this unusual, but not unique, amongst negro torso banks)

Made either by John Harper or Sydenham & McOustra Both were prolific UK based manufacturers of Nigger banks in the early 20th Century (I think the latter most likely)

This model was occasionally sold with a Top Hat. Those models that were so-endowed have a threaded hole in his cranium, not seen on this example

The manufacturer of ths bank produced a range in both Alloy and Cast Iron always with a distinctive series of holes in the rear.
Perhaps this was done to save material in casting ? Or to let the owner view his increasing savings ? :-)
