To complete to authentic colouring, a darker stain/varnish may be required.
It has been purposely left at this stage to show restoration extent.
This was a mess when I got it, but I could see it's full potential lurking.
I put in a good 5 hours delicate work on this and it is now fully operational as intended and as 'tough as old braces.'
Start bid reflects rarity, age, time and materials.
Work completed : Sheared bolt in bit holder drilled out and re-tapped 3/8 whitworth. new bolt found. taper bore filed.
Crank handle was in two pieces. location pins fitted. bonded together and screwed. filled .sanded and varnished.
Palm handle was cracked with a gaping hole in end. crack bonded and filled. hole drilled and capped. sanded and varnished.
Rust removed and whole item fettled to remove most of previous damage.
The woodwork has never had borer.
I consider this highly collectable for the most serious of collectors.
Photo added to show simplicity of changing the bit locking arrangement.
(piece not included with auction.)
Unique, no, it is not original, nothing is, once it's left it's creator, except....for.. one single thing..........SEE Q&A for answer.
Please see photos.
Questions welcome.
Thank you.
