Description
This auction is for a tekoteko carved out of a pencil lead. He comes with a free standing wooden base made of native Manuka and has a protective glass cover to shield him.
I carved this tekoteko mostly with a scalpel, but did use a dremel on the primary cuts to begin with.
This carving was inspired by some amazing pencil lead art I've seen recently. I choose the challenge to carve a tekoteko from a lead because I was carving multiple tekoteko at the time (checkout my other listings).
The pencil is a crucial tool for the carver, from initial ideas scribbled in a sketch book through to the transfer of design and patterns on wood.
If I was to give this tekoteko a name it would be 'Rua-te-whaihanga', knowledge of the artisan.
Materials; Staedtler 6B pencil, glass test-tube, native manuka, plastic tubing, felt
Dimensions (including base and glass); 190mm x 56mm x 50mm
