Charity Auction: Good Wreath! Parnell - E. Berge

  • No reserve No reserve
  • Closed: Sun 19 Dec 2010, 8:00 pm
  • Listing #: 333071566
3. Elizabeth Berge: Untitled

Dimensions & materials:
60cm in diameter, zips, fairylights, cane hoop, florist tape, thread (2010)

About her work Elizabeth states: 'For my wreath I took inspiration from NZ European and pacific cultures.I love flowers at Christmas and my design takes Poinsettia flowers from European culture and places them in a round Pacific Lei to create my Zippitydoodah take on a Pacific Christmas. The Lei to me symbolises "welcome home for Christmas" and ties in the idea of Christmas wreaths being used to greet visitors at the front door, Leis being given to great visitors and worn for special occasions. The Bow is made from zips in NZ native plant colours sewn together to create a striped ribbon, for a NZ flourish. All the zips I have used are surplus from manufactures in the NZ fashion industry which is a little bit of a comment on the fickleness of ever changing fashion'
