15. Rebecca Bewick: Ocean's Jewels
Dimensions & materials: 480mm in diameter, knitted organic fibre, vine, semi-precious stones and shells (2010)
In making Oceans Jewels for the Good Wreath! exhibition, Rebecca wanted to capture an essence of the New Zealand summer season and Christmas experience. As such the textile work in the wreath was influenced by the abstracted natural forms evoked by the movements of the sea on the coast of New Zealand.
In the making of this wreath Rebecca also responded to the store where her wretah is now exhibited in: Graeme Thomson Antique & Estate Jewellery. She was inspired by the history and beauty of Graemes amazing objects and let that inform her colour and texture choices. This resulted in the inclusion of small amounts of semi-precious stones being added to her wreath.

The Project:
Parnell celebrates Christmas with 20 artists reinterpreting the wreath, with works on exhibit in 20 Parnell stores and galleries from November 19 - December 19. In the spirit of Christmas, most works are for sale by TradeMe auction during this period, with twenty percent of proceeds to be donated to the NZ Gynaecological Cancer Foundation.

20% will go to: The New Zealand Gynaecological Cancer Foundation's mission is to educate and inform all NZ women about the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers (the 4 main ones are: uterine, ovarian, cervical and vaginal/vulval cancer), to encourage early detection and to provide support for women following diagnosis and treatment.
