Polishing Kauri gum is a lovely hobby for profit or pleasure.

After many hours, many pieces of gum, and lots of trial and error I have developed a method to polish Kauri gum to a professional finish.

This is not a book, nor a booklet, nor a manual in the usual sense. What is on auction here is 8-A4 pages that gives you a wee bit of history and technical information about Kauri gum, and easy step by step instructions from selecting the gum to the finished product. Everything you need to know to select the best gum for polishing, what materials and tools you will need, how to polish it, and how to sell your finished pieces.

Fossicking for gum on undeveloped land (with owners permission) could produce some finds. You can also find unpolished gum for sale, sometimes on Trade Me. From time to time people find bags or buckets of gum in the attic, garage, basement, etc. and offer it for sale.

For general information only the large piece of gum in the photo measures 9cm long, 6cm wide at the widest and 4cm at the least wide, and approximately 4cm thick on average. The smallest piece 5cm long, 4cm wide and 3cm thick at the thickest and 2cm thick at the thinnest section. This is for general information only...the gum is not for sale.
