Pohutukawa - Christmas is coming : )

An original, signed mixed medium art work. It measures 51cm x 40cm. It is painted on a block canvas with an edge thickness of 3.5cm. The design wraps around the edges of the canvas so no need for framing. It can be hung or sits easily on a shelf or mantlepiece. I have used acrylic paint, impasto for texture and silver pen for some of the highlights. The finished product is sprayed with a matte protective coating.

About the artist:
I am a self taught artist. I was born in Tauranga and grew up in Thames. I began experimenting with water colour in 2001 while on holiday in Rarotonga. It was at a time when I had made a career change after being a Customs Officer for 10 years. A year later I moved to the island of Tutuila in American Samoa where I lived for two and a half years. I continued to paint in my spare time, mainly with acrylic and was inspired by the tropical environment. I later moved to Australia where I lived on the Sunshine Coast and Darwin. I returned home to New Zealand with my young daughter in late 2007 and am enjoying completing more works which reflect our unique natural surroundings in NZ and the beauty of nature. I paint whatever takes my fancy, whatever is going on in my life at the time or what moves me. I enjoy exploring the belief that all things in nature and in the universe are connected. Paintings can help connect us with the environment and the wonders of nature.
