Description
HIGGS, Sydney Hamlet 1884 – 1978
Born Launceston, Tasmania: studied art at Launceston Technical College before working in a patent firm.
In 1904 he moved to Karaka Bay where he lived the rest of his life.
He studied art under H. Linley Richardson and Nugent Welch. After serving in the 1914-1918 war he began to exhibit with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts: was on the Council for 14 years and for 12 years was President of the Wellington Art Club in Miramar. He painted mainly watercolours. Represented: McDougall, Suter, Hocken and Te Papa.
This painting is on the market for the first time. Released from the family collection.
