Up for sale is a beautiful New Zealand landscape, by well recognized New Zealand Artist Bernard Aris (1887-1977), in a simple, elegant glass frame.

Aris is well recognized for his portrayals of Mount Taranaki, or Egmont, as he most often referred to it. What makes this work particularly special, is the date - it is signed 1923. Aris immigrated to New Zealand in 1922. This puts the piece amongst the first of the works he painted with the subject he had a love affair with, and became celebrated for.

"Having first seen Taranaki in 1919 from the deck of a ship, the mountain had captured Aris's imagination in such a way that he never forgot it. In 1923, he came back to paint it."

There is some foxing or a stain/spill on the work in the top left, as pictured. Aside from this, and general fading, it is in very tidy condition.
