ILene Rosa Stichbury (1898-1991). original oil on canvas.young maori girl Painted sometime between(1920-1936). Certify paperwork comes with it ,signed by her solicitor. Well known NZ artist.

The artist I R Stitchbury was trained under Frank and Walter Wright whose works her own closely resemble in colour,style and subject matter.The wright brothers taught from "Wrights studio" in the Victoria arcade, queen street from the 1890"s and several of their students were successful in winning competitions. As a young woman stitchbury travelled widely.she met and married her husband,the well respected poet, Laurence Dakin,in Vancouver in 1939 and moved back to NZ, Whilst persuing her artistic career she was a part-time music teacher at the Hilltop School for girls in Remuera,Auckland. Through ILene Stitchbury's paintings the current generation of Aucklanders are able to reap a wealth of information, topographical and historical, of Auckland and its environs in the 1920's and 1930's.
