Description
This is an original early 19th century French painting attributed to Louis Thomas Francia (1772-1839). Francia came to England in 1795 and exhibited at the R.A. He returned to Calais in 1816 where he became a mentor and painting companion to the famous British Artist Richard Bonnington. The painting is attributed to L. Francia though could be a signature under the mat board as he often signed "LF" on a floating spar or piece of timber. This is a well painted pleasing and interesting scene depicting a French fisherman carrying his boots on the shore at Calais where the artist often painted. Under glass set in good wooden frame. Measures 13.5cm x 17cm picture size and 26.5cm x 31cm with frame.
