The 'Keep It Real' sandwich board wearing monkey first appeared in 2002. The artwork depicts a monkey in a human-like upright position, stenciled in black with his eyes shielded from sight. The sandwich board that hangs on the shoulders of the monkey reads, "Keep It Real." Along with rats, monkeys are a reoccurring motif in Banksy's work. Banksy is the pseudonym of a British graffiti artist, political activist and painter, whose identity is unconfirmed.
