This copperplate black and white is a fantastic talking piece with extensive historical significance.

From the famed "Vitruvius Brittanicus", or "The British Architect" originally compiled by Colen Campbell, a pioneering Scottish Architect in 1715. It ran in three volumes; the final being published in 1725. Hailed as one of the most important historical publishing on Architecture - it is essentially a reference book - a catalogue of design, containing engravings of English architects including Campbell himself, as well as Christopher Wren, and many other prominent architects of the era.

I have several other engravings from the same publication (but I believe an earlier edition) also listed.

I believe this could be a later engraving from around the third quarter of the 18th century.

It reads “The North Prospect of Cliefden House in Buckinghamshire the seat on the Right Honorable The Earl of Orkney General of the Infantry, one of the Lords of his Majestyes Bedchamber and Knight of the most ancient Order of the Thistle & to whome this Plate is most humbly Inscib’d”

This work is in excellent condition for its age, a little bit creased – but very tidy otherwise.

There is a chip to the bottom right of the frame.

Frame measures: 735w x 485h
Art Measures: 510w x 265h

Pickup is in Eden Terrace.
