ABOUT THE ARTIST: Sue Lill (P.S. Lill) DipFA (Painting) Canterbury University School of Art Mastercraft Certificate Whitireia Community Polytechnic

Sue gained her diploma in Fine Arts from the University of Canterbury in the 1960s and painted and exhibited over many years. She is an accomplished potter, illustrator and calligrapher and worked as a sign/showcard painter – an occupation which is now a lost art.
In the mid- 2000s she followed her passion for printmaking into the Printmaking Mastercraft course at Whitireia Polytechnic. In 2005 – as she was completing her study - she suffered a severe stroke which permanently took out her speech and her right hand, and although she has not made any large prints since then, she has taught herself to draw again with her left hand and creates small block prints with her daughter as her printmaker’s apprentice. Sue moved to Whanganui in October 2014, and for the next two years showed her work in her own gallery in downtown Whanganui. She has previously exhibited in group and solo shows in Wellington and Christchurch. The print series she is currently creating may be among her last works as she is losing her eyesight due to the effects of the stroke.
