Students need lots of opportunities to practice word recognition. Sentence Strips are a great learning tool for this!

This 28 page resource of Teaching Timesavers, emailed to you as a .pdf file, has 100 Sentence Strips combining the high frequency words introduced at Red and Yellow (Levels 1-8)

The first sentences have 3 words and gradually progress to more complex sentences using 9 words. The sentences are repetitive to provide lots of reinforcement.

Also included in the resource is a set of 32 word cards at yellow level. (One copy can be used as a quick word knowledge check. – or Print two copies on yellow paper and use them for SNAP or MEMORY.)

The resource also includes the 5 lists of 20 sentences, which can be used as Dictation for small group instruction.

Sentence Strips have lots of uses!

-Laminate, hole punch the strips, cut them out and put on book rings. (This makes a great activity, as students choose a set, read the sentences and copy or write the sentences themselves and illustrate.)

• Laminate sentences. Trace over with a Dry erase Marker.
• Laminate two sets of some of the more complex sentences. Leave one set as strips and cut the other into individual words. Students unscramble sentences, then record them in their books. (It works best if each page of strip sentences and word cards are kept in separate A4 minigrip bags with words in smaller bags inside the bag).
• photocopy a set of sentences as a group activity. Cut into strips. Students cut up into words, scramble and then glue back into a sentence.
