POSTERS: Word Attack Strategies
Suitable for Years NE - Yr 4

Nine Word Attack Strategy Posters – A4 full laser colour and laminated. One poster for each strategy.

Students who are learning to read need strategies besides decoding to help them read unknown words. Decoding is the most common strategy that students use but many words in the English language do not lend themselves to decoding. Therefore, children need other strategies for reading words.

These posters are suitable for wall display and for small group discussions or focus learning groups.

The word attack strategies covered are;
*Use the pictures
*Use sounds of the letters
*Think if the word looks similar (rhyme)
*See if there are smaller words inside bigger words
*Use a word that fits the story.
*Guess, read, stop and backtrack if it does not make sense
*Skip a word and come back
*Ask for help

These posters also come with a two PDF files – information sheet that can go home to parents and a bookmark for students to use in the classroom.

Posters are NZ designed and published.

This is part of a new series of posters (Superhero Readers) designed for Junior classes. More designs to feature in the coming months.
